    STORIA DELLA CANZONE:
    i due autori scrissero questa canzone nel 1937.
    Kennedy prese il titolo dal nome di un pub chiamato Harbour Lights dove si fermò una notte nella quale aveva perso la strada di casa guidando da Weybridge a Porthmouth, in Inghilterra (harbour è la corrispondente parola inglese che significa porto).
    “Harbor lights” venne portata al successo nello stesso anno da Frances Langford (Decca) e da Claude Thornhill and his Orchestra (Vocalion; in quest’ultimo caso, la canzone era eseguita da Jimmy Farrell).
    Nel 1950 Sammy Kaye raggiunse il 1° posto in classifica con la sua registrazione (Columbia).
    Altre incisioni popolari di quell’anno furono quelle di Guy Lombardo (Decca), Bing Crosby (Decca), Ray Anthony (Capitol), Ralph Flanagan (RCA) e di Ken Griffin (Columbia).
    Nel 1950 vennero vendute oltre un milione di copie di sheet music di questa canzone. Le sheets sono i fogli con il testo e gli accordi musicali del brano.
    Nel 1960 i Platters raggiunsero l’8° posto della Hot 100 di Billboard con la loro registrazione di “Harbor lights”.
    Questo brano venne usato come tema del film del 1940 di John Ford “The long voyage home”, che aveva come protagonista John Wayne.
